Borehole Seismic Imaging

2D / 3D Borehole seismic processing offer high-resolution data that enable detailed 2D / 3D images of the reservoir and sub surface. This improves vertical and lateral reservoir resolution compared to surface seismic data.

Rig time has been a critical factor.  Nevertheless, the rig time has been reduced by new technology, and the results have been so encouraging that the interest for such surveys are increasing. Different survey types have been established; circular/spiral/expanding circular shooting geometry and parallel shooting lines or (ir)regular land seismic grids.

A 2D or 3D Borehole seismic survey provides a 2 or 3-dimensional seismic picture of the formations on either side and below the well. The use of long multi-level tool to acquire the data can significantly reduce the acquisition time and improve the consistency of the seismic signal from level to level in the well.

REX Geo Solution personnel have a long experience in processing 2D and 3D Borehole Seismic with respect to imaging, anisotropy estimation and AVO. Techniques for use of semblance deconvolution or wavefield separation and deconvolution in the tau,p domain has been developed with special emphasis on P-S separation through polarization analysis. Analysis of AVO can be performed on common receiver gathers.

Estimated anisotropy parameters and average Q factor can be used in the migrations. REX Geo Solution can offer a full suite of options; Finite difference anisotropic Depth migration with Q compensation, Anisotropic Eikonal depth migration with Q compensation, Anisotropic Kirchhoff time migration, Vector Migrations and VSP-CDP transform (mapping). Reflected S-waves can be migrated with the same algorithms.
